Experience the Best of Namibia is a 12-day private safari from Windhoek to Etosha, Damaraland, Spitzkoppe, the Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund and the Namib Desert. Starting from $3000 per person, it is designed for two guests travelling together with a dedicated guide and driver. What makes this Namibia itinerary different?

Namibia rewards travellers who are willing to follow the road. The character of the country changes constantly, so the journey is not built around one park or one type of safari experience. Instead, it combines wildlife, desert, coast, rock formations and small city stops in a single carefully paced route.

The first days introduce you to Windhoek and the wildlife of Etosha National Park. From there, the road turns west into Damaraland and onwards to the Atlantic before carrying you south to the Namib.

How do the 12 days unfold?

Days 1–3: Windhoek and Etosha National Park

Your Africa at Heart guide meets you on arrival in Windhoek. A gentle orientation takes in landmarks including Christuskirche, the Independence Museum and the Craft Centre, giving you time to settle before the longer road journey begins.

On day two, you travel north to Etosha and enjoy a game drive on the way to your lodge in or near the Okaukuejo area. Day three is devoted to guided game drives across Etosha’s salt pan, grasslands and waterholes. The park is known for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and many antelope species, but the real pleasure is watching the landscape and its wildlife change from one waterhole to the next.

Days 4–6: Damaraland, Twyfelfontein and Spitzkoppe

The route then moves into Damaraland’s rugged scenery. On the way to Twyfelfontein, the itinerary includes the Petrified Forest and entry to the area’s rock engravings. The following day is centred on a guided excursion to track desert-adapted elephants through dry riverbeds and open terrain.

From Twyfelfontein, you continue to Spitzkoppe. These granite formations rise dramatically from the desert plain, and an afternoon guided walk gives you time to experience their scale in the softer light.

Days 7–9: Cape Cross, the Skeleton Coast and Swakopmund

The Atlantic section begins at Cape Cross Seal Reserve before entering the southern part of Skeleton Coast National Park. Access, weather and permit conditions shape the approved route, which is exactly why travelling with a guide matters here.

The focus is the immense coastal landscape: ocean fog, isolation, seabirds and any accessible shipwreck remains or signs of desert-adapted wildlife. Sightings are a special bonus rather than a guarantee.

In Swakopmund, you choose between a Living Desert Tour and a Dolphin Cruise, then have time to enjoy the town at your own pace.

Days 10–12: the Namib, Sossusvlei and the return to Windhoek

The final part of the journey turns south through the Namib’s open landscapes. An early start on day eleven brings you to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei as the dunes catch the first light, with a visit to Sesriem Canyon if conditions and timing allow.

On day twelve, you return to Windhoek for an airport or hotel transfer. If your international departure is early, an additional night in the capital may be recommended.
